Dota 2 High School League Wrap-Up: Week 1

5th Mar 2019

HSL is back for 2019 with a brand new league title: DOTA 2! Following on from the success of our HSL Holiday Cup late last year the first season of 2019 sees 10 teams from 8 different ANZ schools competing in the league. Let’s take a look at our first matches of the year.

Mt Albert Grammar (W) vs. Rangitikei 2 (L)

To say this match was a stomping would be putting it nicely. Caster Matt “Smite” Ross noted that MAGS have been a stand-out school in recent years of HSL and came into this year’s league with a point to prove. They certainly did so, taking a landslide win 64-3 against Rangitekei College 2’s team who were unable to keep up a defense strong enough to hold back MAGS’ skill set and experience in this game. Mt Albert Grammar are going to be a tough team to beat this season!

Scots (W) vs. Rangitoto 1 (L)

As our first match was wrapped up so quickly, audience members were treated to a second live match: Scots College vs. Rangitoto High School 1. This was another one-sided match with Scots scooping up kill after kill. Unlike Rangitikei 2, who were able to grab a couple of kills as the game concluded, Rangitoto 1 were left kill-less. The final score read 31-0 to Scots College.

Our offline match results were:
Lynfield (W) vs Te Kura Maori o Nga Tapuwae (L)
Te Puke (W) vs Rangitoto #2 (DNC)
Rangitikei vs. Haileybury (Match rescheduled to Wednesday 6th)

Rangitoto College #2 have since withdrawn from the competition. All future matches scheduled against Rangitoto #2 is now a BYE (no match). The opposing team will automatically gain 1 point from a default win.

Tune in every Monday from 5PM NZDT on Twitch.tv/highschoolleague or SKY Sport (NZ Only) to catch all the action!
