Project CARS 2 ANZ Championship Wrap-Up: Week Two

24th Apr 2019

Week 2 of the Project CARS 2 ANZ Championship Season 1 2019 saw 16 of ANZ’s best motor-sim drivers continue to grapple for the top spot on the leader-board. Let’s see how Episode 2 fared for our participants driving through the stunning Zhuhai International Circuit in China!

At the starting line, Robert “Murphy’s Law” Northway inched into the lead by the first turn. The beginning of the episode was not without some drama as one driver pushed another into the fence a mere 5 seconds from starting. Kyl “THR Madzie” Madden slotted into P2 with Matthew “Bull” Pluck hot on his heels at P3. Fan-favourite Daniel Shields sat in the middle of the pack at 6th, but he wouldn’t be there for long.

Lap 1 continued to have more drama, as Simon “nzsimonb” Bishop was knocked into the weeds in a 3-car shunt at the end of a corner. Bull and THR Madzie battled for P2 and P3 in Murphy’s Law’s dust, who edged out ahead and kept a steady lead. However at another corner Murphy’s Law took a deep turn, allowing Bull to snatch the lead in a wide corner. Bull and Madzie then battled for first place, neck-and-neck down a straight strip and taking advantage of each crucial corner. At turn 3 they were still side by side, but Shields crept up to take P2 behind Bull at Lap 21 – however it wasn’t enough for the win. Bull took P1 at the checkered flag for Race 1, Shields in P2 and MonkeyMatt in P3.

Race 2 of the night saw Shields and Madzie neck-and-neck for P1 and P2 on the first few laps, with Bull right behind them in P3. Murphy’s Law sat at P4, with MonkeyMatt at a comfortable P5. Based on the races so far and what the leaderboard reflects, these seem to be the top 5 players to keep an eye on in this tournament.

There was much less on-track drama as Race 1, with no visible collisions from drivers – until Murphy’s Law skidded out again into the grass on a crucial turn in Lap 7. This pulled him down from P3 to P4, allowing MonkeyMatt to snatch P3 position. The race was pretty much decided from there on out, with Daniel Shields snagging first place on the track, Bull in P2, and MonkeyMatt in P3.

Tournament Standings – Week 2

These races keep THR Madzie in first overall on the tournament leaderboard by a tiny 8 point difference:
