Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Multiplayer Beta Preview

In Call of Duty’s thirteenth installment (that’s right, this is the 13th game for the CoD franchise!), the developers have gone all in on building a platform for battling it out in futuristic settings.

While we were only able to participate in the Frontier, Frost and Throwback maps during the beta period, it’s clear the theme may take some adjusting to for traditional CoD players. However, the game mechanics remain true to the franchise. CoD: Infinite Warfare feels a lot like Advanced Warfare and Black Ops III combined, with an added futuristic explosion of warfare.

Experiment with six new classes
There will be six brand new classes or Combat Rigs Suits as they’re called in the game. The Warfighter rig is the Swiss army knife of the classes, not excelling at one particular thing but being balanced in all things. The Synaptic rig is the run-and-gun class, preferring to fight in close quarters.

In addition to these two rigs, there will also be the FTL, Stryker, Phantom and Merc classes. Players will start out with three rigs, earning more as they progress through the game.

Each rig has its own unique weapons, traits, unique abilities that you can unlock as you play, and payloads (unique rewards and active abilities that you also gain over time).

Upgrade your weapons
CoD: Infinite Warfare will continue on the CoD theme of allowing you to upgrade your weapons. This time, expect some technologically advanced upgrades never seen before.

Pistols, shotguns, assault rifles, and snipers will have distinct upgrades but follow along with familiar themes. Expect plasma upgrades, energy powered weapons, and even unique melee weapons to try. Grenades will also have unique effects – like a biogenetic freeze explosion.

As the Warfighter rig, your class boost is called “The Claw”, which unfolds into a complex micromachine that fires a  ballistic round, bouncing off surrounding surfaces.

Plas as the FTL class and you’ll get a pistol named “The Eraser”, disintegrating enemies into a red dust cloud with just one shot.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is remastered
Infinite Warfare won’t be the only title coming out this year. The long-awaited remaster of one the greatest games in the franchise’s history, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (released in 2007), will also be coming out this year.

In fact, if you purchase the Legendary or Digital Deluxe Edition to Infinite Warfare, you will also receive a copy of the Modern Warfare remake.

Zombies make a return
For the first time in the franchise’s history, Infinity Ward will be developing a separate zombie mode that shares an alternate universe with Infinite Warfare. Immerse yourself within the 80s, disco ball and sweat pants included. Experience CoD’s new survival-based rounds.

Final Impressions
CoD: Infinite Warfare is most certainly a welcome addition to the lineup, but I don’t feel it revolutionizes the series like some may have anticipated.

The modes, maps, and progression system will keep CoD fans playing for weeks to months, and the multiplayer experience most certainly has enough to expand on.

Confirmed modes include Team Deathmatch, Domination, Kill Confirmed, Gun Game, Search and Rescue, Search and Destroy, Infected, Uplink, and Grind. There will also be two new modes, called Defender and Frontline.

All in all, expect a strong game.
