Letsplay.live will have a huge presence at the Armageddon Expo at the ASB Showgrounds in Auckland this weekend.
They’re encouraging gamers to come along and get involved in a range of activities they have on offer.
The action starts tonight at the Logitech G eSports Arena as the public can take on YouTube personalities Viva La Dirt League – Alan Morrison, Rowan Bettjeman and Adam Kin – in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.
It runs from 6-9pm and gamers can have a look at what it’s like to play in a big arena in a pressure-free environment.
The Viva La Dirt League team have more than 115,000 fans on Facebook and their humorous YouTube videos are always well-received.
More than 70,000 people will attend Armageddon throughout the weekend and one of the gaming highlights will be the High School League 2 finals on Saturday.
The HSL – New Zealand’s premier secondary school esports competition – sees high schools from across the country competing in League of Legends.
League is one of the most popular titles around the globe and the HSL has been a springboard for players before turning professional.
The HSL is only in its first year of competition but the growth has been phenomenal and reflects the booming popularity of gaming among young people in New Zealand.
This weekend’s final features Mt Albert Grammar School and Mt Roskill Grammar School in the Premier Division final, starting at 2.30pm.
Northcote College will tackle Aquinas College in the second-tier Challenger Division final at 10.30am.
LPL Director Duane Mutu says this weekend is a great showcase for esports in New Zealand.
“LPL is stoked to be able to provide a big-stage esports experience for the NZ eSports community at Armageddon and people who are not able to attend can stream it live on www.letsplay.live.”
Moving to Sunday and LPL will host a live talk show with interviews from gamers and influencers from the eSports industry from 11am-4pm.
There will also be a Street Fighter V tournament on Sunday.
On Labour Day Monday, Kiwi gamers can take part in a GT Sport tournament from 2-3.30pm.
