After five weeks of intense competition, Tainted Minds emerged as the front-runners of the LPL Pro ANZ CS:GO Invitational, going undefeated against the likes of Grayhound Gaming, Chiefs Esports Club, Legacy Esports, Breakaway Esports and Ground Zero. The reward for that was being seeded directly into the grand final to be held at LPL Studios inside Auckland’s Sky Tower on Thursday the 8th of November.
However, they needed a challenger, and the second and third placed teams were set to battle it out to claim that position. After Grayhound Gaming unfortunately pulled out of the final, their opponents in the Chiefs Esports Club will instead be matched up against Legacy Esports for the right to challenge Tainted Minds, who by all measures look unstoppable in this competition.
The two teams had met in the second round of the round robin, after both teams had produced comeback victories the week before against Breakaway Esports and Ground Zero, also straight after the in-game changes that altered the economy as well as the gameplay. It had been Legacy who’d secured the pistol round on T side, but it was Chiefs who had bounced back to take three rounds.
The entire game had been a slugfest and the teams were evenly matched until Chiefs secured five rounds in a row to blow it wide open. It’s a best of three, so there will be no flash-in-the-pan victory tonight as both teams will get the opportunity to play to their strengths. However, momentum may play a key factor as the Chiefs will be running hot after their recent LAN victory.
I had a chat to bl1tz from Legacy about the upcoming matchup, and they’re feeling confident about their match against the Chiefs “We are feeling good about our match up against the Chiefs. Our map pool is quite similar and we are confident in our ability to give our best on our maps.”
They also know what they need to do to take the win, as bl1tz said, “to lock in the TM matchup we will need to come into the Chiefs game ready individually, as a team & most importantly mentally – able to handle any situations of nerves that can come up with LAN games and pull ourselves through it. Any team can win on LAN, and we are ready.”
The teams are evenly matched, so make sure you have enough popcorn to last all three games. It’s sure to be a thrilling contest, so tune in to SKY Sport 6 and twitch.tv/letsplaylive tonight to see the Chiefs Esports Club and Legacy Esports fight it out for the right to challenge Tainted Minds in the Grand Final!
