10th Year Anniversary
It will be hard to mention 2017 without acknowledging that on the 9th of April 2017 CG will be turning 10. Starting with CoD2, in the last 10 years we have hosted nearly every major competitive game and been at the core of helping teams and players develop in the region.
Running a website like CyberGamer is far from an easy task as we have seen many sites come and go over this time. We first and foremost would like to thank all of the 350,000 members who have registered and used this site during the last ten years. CyberGamer is ran by volunteers who have a true passion for esports and their favorite titles. I would like to give a huge thanks all the admins who have helped us out and given up their own time to provide to the Australian gamers. A special thanks goes to @Asterix
who even to this day spends so much time creating new features, improving functionality and has a real drive to make CyberGamer the best it can be. I would also like to mention @Talnoy
who for years worked tirelessly to see the Australian esports community keep growing. There is so many people to thank and could fill a few pages, you guys know who you are and also know that your time is and was greatly appreciated. .

The growth of esports in the last few years even in our own region continues to reach new heights. We have been lucky over the last two years to see so many local players have the ability to travel and play at international events. CyberGamer has a number of exciting plans for 2017 in which we have been working hard on for the last few months we are excited to be able to share some of those plans with you now, and others are still be finalised in the background.
Its with the utmost excitement today we are announcing the CyberGamer Esports Studio, from April 2017 all offline events will have a permanent LAN home at CyberGamer which is currently being developed. The studio will house our esports stage with seating for up to 150 live spectators and also offer a home for CyberGamer TV to bring all top tier online matches right to your home from the comfort of our studio. The studio will be located in Adelaide where we have a wealth of available commentators, high speed internet, and affordable infrastructure. Adelaide has a very exciting esports scene with many top tier players. We also feel this allows Australian esports to be seen and shared with many other people rather than the same sites in Sydney and Melbourne.
The first offline event will be CGPL Autumn 2017 where the LAN finals fall on our 10 year anniversary, which will see both CoD and CSGO. We have another live event planned on the 28th - 30th April with details hopefully being released in the upcoming weeks.
CyberGamer Premier League Autumn 2017
2017 will see the return of the CyberGamer Premier League (CGPL) for the first time since April 2016. Not only will it return and have a prize pool of over $20,000, but we will be focusing this year on two key titles which will make it to every CGPL LAN. CSGO for PC and CoD:IW for PS4.
CGPL Autumn 2017 will kick off with round 1 matches starting in the first week of February and finish at the CyberGamer Studio for its first live event on the 7th - 9th April 2017.
Keep an eye on your local game forums for further announcements and information.
You can expect the official CGPL Autumn 2017 information announcement to be posted by mid January.
SMITE Oceanic Pro League
Still being discussed, we currently don't have a clear path for Smite and CyberGamer for Split 1 , Currently in discussion with our partners DoubleJump Communication
and Hi Rez Studios
for the fourth season of competitive SMITE we hope to be able to announce some exciting news soon.
Other Key Titles
Beyond Quarter One
CyberGamer Premier League
- OverWatch - We have some very exciting plans for Overwatch in 2017 and looking forward to sharing more details about our plans soon. For now teams can continue to play in the OverWatch weeklies, but ensure you keep your eye out for an announcement soon.
- Rocket League - Making its full time return in 2017 is Rocket League, starting the 4th Feb 2017. Keep your eye out on the local forums for more details.
- Paladins - Each Monday night players will be able to play in the weekly tournaments to keep the competitive edge over their competitive rivals, along with our bi-weekly $150 Wednesday Paladins cash tournaments for those who want to win some cash.
Starting in 2017 CGPL will take on a new format, with four splits in total. The top two teams from each split will be invited to the CyberGamer Premier League Championships in November along with two wildcard teams who will qualify after CGPL Spring. Other titles may be added to the CGPL in the future, but at this stage Counter-Strike and CoD will be the main focus.
[small]**CGPL Championships date subject to changed based on other events eg PAX[/small]
Not to worry if your title is not a part of CGPL as support and LANs for other titles are being discussed currently.
We have many great things planned for 2017, with this announcement just being a sample of what's to come. Once again we thank everyone who has helped, played and used CyberGamer in the last 10 years, and look forward to another great 10.
