ARENA Adelaide LAN 29/30th July Info/Rego Thread

What anti-cheat will be used? and Do CG bans apply?

"Do not allow personal accounts to be used, (to prevent steamcloud hack thing), and also do not let them download any personal files, restrict them access to only CSGO." - smart admin

anticheat works by effectively looking at someone's screen, realising that there isn't 1:1 pixel movement and then a swift kneecap outside by the entire CS:GO community in Adelaide

Quote from Karath on the 26th of June 2017

wait, so you're pretty much saying the lan will have vac? lmao

i really don't understand, do you really think that you'll be able to notice someone cheating just by looking at their monitor? if this was 2009 meta of cs then yeah, but in this meta of cheating, people can easily inject a cheat off a nearby-device or easily mask it as software, ect, ect: my point is, cheating is advanced in 2017 and you'll never know by looking at someones monitor.

in conclusion: use a good anti-cheat.

Quote from tababs on the 26th of June 2017

At the end of the day, us chasing around for one or two players that are potentially cheating and willing to cheat at LAN would cost more money, time and effort than is efficiently viable.

Let's use your argument, as you're correct - we need a more intrusive and specialist anticheat system. These don't come for free, and for the cost of our LAN it's 100% going to sink more operational costs than what's worth it. Do you think ESEA is going to grant us free use of their anticheat client?

You're going to argue they can only bring personal files. That means our admins, who are legitimately doing this for free, will either have to parse over how many files and demand 100% compliance from all users, which once again, for a community LAN, is completely unfeasible.

Ultimately it's a community LAN event, not some insane top tier international tournament where serious money is on the line. If/when the money and stakes rises, you bet I would look at anticheat measures a lot more securely. but when the majority teams are amateurs, where 99% of the community do the right thing, I'd rather not punish the 99% for the hypothetical 1%.

Quote from Karath on the 26th of June 2017

i mean, yeah it does cost a lot of money to have a decent anti-cheat and i fully understand why you're saying it's only a low level LAN so it really wouldn't matter.

but 125$ per team and 10+ teams are to be expected? ( i think ) is kinda a lot of money for a low level LAN lmao.

"99% of the community do the right thing, I'd rather not punish the 99% for the hypothetical 1%"

lmao okay buddy you're fucking naive.

thanks for the banter: let's agree to disagree.

Quote from tababs on the 26th of June 2017

All monitors are very easy to look at, and there will almost ALWAYS be at least 1-5 people standing behind your team at these lans, because they're waiting for their group to start.

And there is anticheat. The people. If you get caught cheating, you will receive the personal treatment of multiple knuckles from multiple people.

PS.
$125 close to the price you're gonna pay for any local lan, lots are even $150. 20+ gaming computers don't magically appear out of nowhere, the net cafe has to be paid to book out all of these computers for two full days, and the rest goes straight to the prize pool.
