Background

The team from Arataua Productions secured funding from Te Mangai Paho to create an esports reality show to find the best Maori gamer in Aotearoa, with each episode to be published weekly on Youtube. The Arataua team asked LPL to help integrate their traditional narrative reality series format more natively into the gaming landscape in Aotearoa.

Opportunity

LPL recommended games and game modes, providing a tournament bracket for the competitors that would culminate in a nail-biting grand final. We provided LPL staff and studio services to the Arataua team, delivering a full spec grand final brilliantly directed by the Arataua team featuring the show’s impeccable presenters D’Angelo Martin and Te Aorere Pewhairangi as host and commentator. LPL created a broadcast GFX package based on the show’s existing look and feel, facilitating delivery of the livestream to LPL’s Twitch channel and simulcast to Maori Television online. We also hosted an awesome watch party at the LPL studio and were honoured to be part of one of Aotearoa’s first nearly 100% Te Reo gaming shows.
